A Durable Power of Attorney is one of the documents that typically are included in an Estate Plan. A Durable Power of Attorney is an important document for everyone to have, regardless of age or health and I recommend them for all my clients. In a Durable Power of Attorney, you delegate the power to make financial decisions to someone else – typically a trusted family member or friend. That person – often called your Agent or Attorney-in-Fact – then has the power to assist you with financial matters if and when it becomes necessary.
